It exhibits high selectivity for PRDM9 over other histone methyltransferases and non-epigenetic targets. MRK-740 effectively inhibits PRDM9-mediated trimethylation of histone H3 at lysine 4 (H3K4me3), with an IC₅₀ of 0.8 µM in cellular assays.
