Aphidicolin is a tetracyclic diterpenoid antibiotic produced by the mold Cephalosporium aphidicola, known for its potent and selective inhibition of DNA polymerase α and δ. By interfering with these polymerases, Aphidicolin blocks DNA synthesis and prevents mitotic cell division, making it a valuable tool for studying cell cycle regulation and DNA replication.
