Tetraconazole is a selective irreversible inhibitor of 14-α-sterol demethylase (CYP51), exhibiting potent antifungal activity. By competitively binding to CYP51, tetraconazole disrupts ergosterol synthesis in fungi, leading to compromised cell membrane integrity. The compound demonstrates an EC50 of 0.382-0.802 mg/L against wheat pathogens and 6.7 mg/L for inhibiting onion root tip meristem cell growth.
