Antioxidant agent-5 is a potent antioxidant that targets oxidative stress pathways. It effectively inhibits oxidized low-density lipoprotein (oxLDL)-induced apoptosis and the expression of intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 (VCAM-1) in vascular endothelial cells. This compound suppresses oxLDL-mediated reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and nuclear translocation of NF-κB, providing protective effects against oxLDL-induced endothelial injury through the activation of the Nrf2/HO-1 antioxidant pathway.
