PYO12 is a selective antibacterial compound targeting Gram-positive bacteria. It demonstrates potent activity against S. aureus, B. subtilis, S. pneumoniae, and MRSA, with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of 1 μg/mL for the first three and 4 μg/mL for MRSA. PYO12 enhances bacterial membrane permeability and upregulates stress-related genes by potentially binding to the C55-PP moiety of lipid II.
