Decarbamoylsaxitoxin is a potent sodium channel inhibitor that selectively blocks the influx of sodium ions in excitable tissues, such as nerve and skeletal muscle cells, thus preventing action potential generation. As a hydrolysis product of saxitoxin, Decarbamoylsaxitoxin exhibits similar neurotoxic effects, including the ability to inhibit veratridine- and ouabain-induced neuroblastoma cell swelling and lysis.
