Arachidonoyl thio-PC serves as a substrate for various phospholipase A2 (PLA2) isoforms, including secreted PLA2 (sPLA2), cytosolic PLA2 (cPLA2), and intracellular PLA2 (iPLA2). The enzymatic cleavage of sn-2 fatty acids by PLA2 leads to the release of free thiols, which can be quantified using chromogenic reagents like DTNB (Ellman's reagent) and DTP. This reagent is ideal for measuring isozyme-specific cPLA2 activity while selectively depleting or inhibiting sPLA2 and iPLA2 activities in biochemical assays.
