1,2,4-Trihydroxybenzene

ER Stress Inducer

1,2,4-Trihydroxybenzene (Hydroxyhydroquinone) is an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress inducer that primarily targets the PKR-like ER kinase PERK, leading to cytotoxic effects. This compound selectively activates eIF2α phosphorylation, engages the PERK-eIF2α signaling pathway, and promotes the formation of stress granules. Additionally, 1,2,4-Trihydroxybenzene augments oxidative stress, induces DNA double-strand breaks, and disrupts organelles such as mitochondria and the ER, ultimately resulting in cell death. Research indicates its potential applications in anti-tumor studies, blood pressure regulation, and muscle spasm relief.
