1,4-Dichlorobenzene

Mitogenic/Promotional Carcinogen

1,4-Dichlorobenzene is a non-genotoxic, orally active mitogenic and tumor-promoting agent. This compound has been shown to induce liver tumors in certain murine models and to stimulate the growth of spontaneous precancerous lesions, making it valuable for liver cancer research. It alters key biomarkers, including elevated white blood cell counts and increased levels of serum alanine aminotransferase in exposed populations. Additionally, 1,4-Dichlorobenzene is metabolized to 2,5-dichlorophenol, which can serve as a biomarker for exposure. Its specific hepatotoxic properties make it a significant reagent for studies related to liver pathology and carcinogenesis.
