11-cis-Retinal

Drug Derivative

11-cis-Retinal is an oxidized derivative of 11-cis-Retinol that acts as an inverse agonist by binding to opsin in the mammalian visual system, stabilizing the inactive conformation of rhodopsin. This compound is essential for vision and is involved in growth and development processes. Research indicates that 11-cis-Retinal can restore visual function in moths with impaired vision and has demonstrated the ability to recover retinal function in a mouse model of early-age Leber congenital amaurosis type 2 (LCA2) retinal degeneration.
