(±)13-HDHA

DHA Oxide

(±)13-HDHA is an autoxidation product of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) that serves as a biomarker for oxidative stress. This compound is produced during the incubation of DHA in various biological systems, including rat liver, brain, and intestinal microsomes, as well as being metabolized by freshwater hydra via 11R-lipoxygenase activity. Its role in oxidative stress research is particularly relevant in the brain and retina, where DHA is significantly abundant.
