13-Hydroxy-alpha-tocopherol

Anticancer Agent

13-Hydroxy-alpha-tocopherol acts as an anticancer agent primarily through its antioxidant properties and ability to inhibit cell proliferation. This fat-soluble vitamin E derivative effectively scavenges peroxyl free radicals and protects polyunsaturated fatty acids from oxidative damage. Research indicates that 13-Hydroxy-alpha-tocopherol not only suppresses glioma cancer cell growth but is also implicated in reproductive health, with its deficiency linked to recurrent miscarriage and embryonic issues. Its expression has been observed to be downregulated in the follicular fluid of patients with recurrent miscarriage, highlighting its potential utility in both cancer and reproductive health research.
