2-Methylvaleric acid

Short-chain Fatty acid

2-Methylvaleric acid is a branched short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) involved in the metabolism of branched-chain amino acids by gut microbiota. It has been identified as a potential biomarker for metabolic disorders, such as type 2 diabetes, where its levels are significantly decreased in the feces of diabetic models. This compound may influence host energy metabolism and inflammatory responses by acting on G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) or inhibiting histone deacetylases (HDACs). 2-Methylvaleric acid serves as a valuable tool for investigating gut microbe-host interactions and the pathophysiology of metabolic diseases.
