Metalloenzyme Inhibitor
3-Hydroxy-2-pyrone serves as a metalloenzyme inhibitor, demonstrating approximately 50% inhibition of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and over 70% inhibition of the non-heme iron enzyme 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX) at 1 mM concentration. Additionally, it exhibits inhibitory activity against the copper-dependent enzyme tyrosinase. This compound is relevant for research in cancer, infectious diseases, and inflammatory processes.
