3-Hydroxyisovalerylcarnitine

MCD Diagnostic Marker

3-Hydroxyisovalerylcarnitine is a carnitine derivative that serves as a diagnostic marker for biotin deficiency. Elevated levels of this compound in plasma indicate reduced activity of biotin-dependent 3-methylcrotonyl-CoA carboxylase, disrupting the conversion of 3-methylcrotonyl-CoA to 3-methylglutaconyl-CoA and impairing leucine catabolism. This makes 3-Hydroxyisovalerylcarnitine a useful biomarker for assessing biotin deficiency in research applications related to metabolic disorders.
