4-Bromo-3-hydroxybenzoic acid

Histidine Decarboxylase Inhibitor

4-Bromo-3-hydroxybenzoic acid is a selective inhibitor of histidine decarboxylase (HDC), demonstrating IC50 values of 1 mM for both rat fetal and rat gastric HDC isoforms. This compound also inhibits aromatic-L-amino acid decarboxylase from hog kidney and rat gastric mucosa in vitro, with similar IC50s of 1 mM for both enzymes. Due to its inhibitory properties, 4-Bromo-3-hydroxybenzoic acid is useful in studying biochemical pathways involving histamine production and neurochemical modulation.
