4-Methylcatechol

C23O Inhibitor

4-Methylcatechol is a specific inhibitor of catechol 2,3-dioxygenase (C23O), playing a critical role in the degradation of certain alkylbenzenes. It has been shown to induce apoptosis in melanoma cells through mechanisms involving oxidative stress, though it has also demonstrated carcinogenic properties in some studies. Additionally, 4-Methylcatechol exhibits antiplatelet effects and contributes to blood pressure reduction, while also inhibiting protein oxidation without promoting disulfide formation in beef tissue. This compound is valuable for research into cellular signaling, cancer biology, and cardiovascular health.
