5-Acetamide-Butenolide

Mycotoxin

5-Acetamide-Butenolide is a mycotoxin characterized by its pro-oxidant activity, primarily derived from the genus Fusarium. This compound disrupts mitochondrial membrane potential in primary neonatal rat cardiomyocytes and promotes the production of thiobarbituric acid reactive substances (TBARS) in isolated rat myocardial mitochondria. Additionally, 5-Acetamide-Butenolide increases reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels, decreases glutathione (GSH) concentrations, and diminishes the viability of HepG2 cells, making it valuable for research on oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction.
