5-Hydroxydecanoic acid

KATP Channel Antagonist

5-Hydroxydecanoic acid (5-HD) is a selective antagonist of KATP channels, capable of inhibiting channel activity during ischemic conditions by competing with ATP for the binding site. This agent specifically targets the KATP channels in cardiac tissues and spares those in pancreatic cells, making it a valuable tool for studying the physiological role of KATP channels in ischemia and related disorders. Its unique mechanism of action positions 5-HD as an important reagent in cardiovascular research aimed at understanding ischemic preconditioning and protective strategies against cardiac injury.
