5-Hydroxyoxindole

Antioxidant

5-Hydroxyoxindole is an antioxidant that acts by scavenging free radicals, including DPPH radicals, and inhibiting lipid peroxidation. This compound is a product of tryptophan metabolism in the gut, formed through the action of bacterial tryptophanase and tryptophan synthase. Research indicates that 5-Hydroxyoxindole is significantly involved in the neurological symptoms associated with hepatic encephalopathy in rat models. It serves as a valuable reagent for studying oxidative stress-mediated disorders.
