5-Hydroxytryptophol

Alcohol Intake Marker

5-Hydroxytryptophol is a serotonin metabolite that serves as a sensitive biomarker for recent alcohol consumption. This compound is produced through alcohol-induced alterations in the serotonin metabolic pathway and is typically excreted in urine as a glucuronic acid conjugate. Elevated levels of 5-Hydroxytryptophol in urine can be used clinically to monitor alcohol intake, particularly in cases of alcohol relapse.
