5-Methyluridine

RNA nucleoside

5-Methyluridine (m5U) is an RNA modified nucleotide that acts as a substrate for RNA methyltransferases, including TrmA and RumA, which specifically modify uracil residues in RNA. This nucleoside plays a critical role in enhancing translation accuracy and ribosome function through stabilization of RNA structures, particularly in the T arm of tRNA and specific regions of rRNA. Applications in research include studies on RNA processing, modification impact on ribosomal activities, and exploration of RNA secondary and tertiary structure influences.
