PXR Agonist
7α-Hydroxy-4-cholesten-3-one is a potent agonist of the pregnane X receptor (PXR), playing a critical role in the regulation of bile acid synthesis from cholesterol. This compound acts as a biomarker for conditions such as bile acid loss and irritable bowel syndrome, as well as various disorders linked to defective bile acid biosynthesis. Additionally, it serves as the physiological substrate for the enzyme CYP8B1, facilitating important biochemical pathways in the liver.
