8(S)-HEPE

Monohydroxy Fatty Acids

8(S)-HEPE is a monohydroxy fatty acid derived from the lipoxygenase-mediated oxidation of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA). This compound has been shown to stimulate the hatching of barnacle eggs at concentrations as low as 10 nM, although its role as a natural egg hatching factor is not definitively established. 8(S)-HEPE is useful for studying the biochemical pathways involving monohydroxy fatty acids and their biological activities.
