9,10-Phenanthrenequinone

Claudin Inhibitor

9,10-Phenanthrenequinone is a potent inhibitor of claudin-5 (CLDN5), exerting its effects through a nitric oxide synthase (NOS) and reactive oxygen species (ROS)-dependent mechanism that induces apoptosis. This compound has been shown to promote endothelial barrier dysfunction by activating caspases, leading to DNA fragmentation, while also reducing CLDN5 expression and implicating proteasomal proteolysis. Its unique activity makes it a valuable tool for research in cell barrier integrity and apoptotic processes.
