Actein

Anticancer Agent

Actein is a triterpene glycoside derived from the rhizomes of Cimicifuga foetida, primarily functioning as an anticancer agent. This compound demonstrates significant antiproliferative effects on cancer cells, particularly in bladder cancer, by inducing autophagy and apoptosis through the activation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) pathway while inhibiting the AKT signaling pathway. Actein exhibits low toxicity in vivo, making it a promising candidate for further research in cancer therapeutics.
