Advantame

Sweetener

Advantame is an N-substituted derivative of aspartame that primarily functions as a high-intensity, low-calorie sweetener. This compound interacts with plasma proteins and has been shown to potentially induce hypotension and inhibit the hERG K+ channel, raising concerns for cardiotoxicity. Advantame activates the T1R2/T1R3 taste G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR), promoting oligomeric functional selectivity and enhancing sialidase activity in vitro. Additionally, in prenatal developmental toxicity studies on rabbits, Advantame has displayed maternal toxicity characterized by gastrointestinal disturbances.
