Agaric acid

Adenine Nucleotide Translocase Inhibitor

Agaric acid, a potent inhibitor of adenine nucleotide translocase, primarily targets mitochondria to influence cellular energetics and metabolism. This compound demonstrates the ability to inhibit biofilm formation in various bacterial strains, including Salmonella. Additionally, Agaric acid induces mitochondrial permeability transition, leading to calcium release and disruption of the transmembrane potential, which results in mitochondrial swelling. Its impact on citrate transport in liver mitochondria further connects it to the inhibition of fatty acid synthesis, highlighting its relevance in metabolic research applications.
