Agaritine

Native Compound

Agaritine is a naturally occurring compound derived from the edible mushroom Agaricus bisporus. This compound is metabolized by enzymatic activity in the mushroom into the carcinogenic 4-(hydroxymethyl)benzenediazonium ion, highlighting its relevance in studies related to cancer research. Agaritine's structural similarities to recognized carcinogens make it a valuable tool for investigating mechanisms of carcinogenesis and assessing food safety implications.
