Aminoglutethimide

P-450-Dependent Hydroxylase Inhibitor

Aminoglutethimide is a selective inhibitor of cytochrome P-450-dependent hydroxylases, notably affecting aromatase and other steroidogenic enzymes. It significantly disrupts steroid hormone biosynthesis pathways, leading to decreased cortisol production, with reported IC50 values of 0.3 μM for aromatase and varying effects on other enzymes. This compound is employed in research related to endocrine disorders, including Cushing's syndrome and breast cancer, making it a valuable reagent for studies focused on steroid hormone regulation and therapeutic interventions in related conditions.
