Ampullosporin A is a peptaibol-type polypeptide derived from the fungus Sepedonium ampullosporum HKI-0053, primarily targeting neuroleptic pathways. This compound demonstrates antipsychotic-like properties by inhibiting hyperactivity induced by the NMDA receptor antagonist MK-801 and improving social behavior deficiencies linked to subchronic treatment. Notably, Ampullosporin A modifies the activity of glutamate receptors while leaving dopamine D1 and D2 receptor function unaffected, making it an important tool for research into neuropsychiatric disorders.
