SPase I Inhibitor

Antibacterial agent 256, an inhibitor of type I signal peptidase (SPase I), demonstrates significant antibacterial activity against gram-positive bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus, Enterococcus faecium, Enterococcus faecalis, and Streptococcus suis, with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) ranging from 1 to 16 μg/mL. Additionally, it exhibits cytotoxic effects on cancer cell lines HEp-2 and Caco-2, with CC50 values of 14.65 μg/mL and 21.93 μg/mL, respectively. Antibacterial agent 256 also displays hemolytic activity on mouse red blood cells, with an HC50 of 13.29 μg/mL, and shows potential in alleviating MRSA skin infections in a mouse model.
