Aristolactam I

AQP1 Inhibitor

Aristolactam I is an inhibitor of aquaporin 1 (AQP1), functioning as a metabolite of Aristolochic acid I derived from Aristolochia plants. This compound has demonstrated the ability to downregulate Twist1 expression while enhancing levels of E-cadherin and activating the TGF-β/Smad signaling pathway, which may contribute to its anticancer properties against breast cancer. Additionally, Aristolactam I is recognized for its nephrotoxic effects and is primarily utilized in research focused on breast cancer and renal conditions, such as renal interstitial fibrosis.
