β-D-galactose

GalR Inactivator

β-D-galactose functions as a galactose repressor (GalR) inactivator. By effectively binding to GalR, it induces the expression of the gal regulon, prompting the synthesis of UDP-galactose within the biosynthetic glycosylation pathway. Notably, in Yersinia pestis with inactivated GalM, β-D-galactose acts as a persistent induction signal rather than a carbon source, making it a valuable tool in research applications involving metabolic regulation and gene expression.
