β-Galactosidase, E. coli

Glycoside Hydrolase

β-Galactosidase (E. coli) is a glycoside hydrolase that hydrolyzes β-glycosidic bonds between galactose and various organic moieties. Expressed from the lacZ gene, this enzyme plays a critical role in the lac operon induction system. β-Galactosidase effectively hydrolyzes lactose into glucose and galactose, facilitating glycolysis, and can also catalyze the transgalactosylation of lactose to produce allolactose, which can be converted into monosaccharides. This reagent is widely used in molecular biology and biochemistry research applications, particularly for studies involving lactose metabolism and gene expression analysis.
