Bathophenanthroline

Active Compound

Bathophenanthroline is a nitrogen-containing organic ligand primarily known for its ability to form stable complexes with transition metal ions, particularly Ru2+. This compound is widely utilized in proteomics for in-gel protein staining due to its negatively charged sulfonic acid groups, which interact with positively charged amino acid residues in proteins. This interaction enhances the fluorescent signal, allowing for improved protein separation and detection in SDS-PAGE gels, as well as facilitating various fluorescence studies. The excitation/emission wavelength for optimal detection is 532 nm/610 nm.
