Benzoapyrene diol epoxide

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon

Benzo[a]pyrene diol epoxide is a reactive metabolite of the polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon benzo[a]pyrene, known for its role as a carcinogen in tobacco smoke and environmental pollutants. This compound is involved in the induction of esophageal carcinogenesis and has been shown to activate key signaling pathways, including ERK and p38 MAPK. The activation is characterized by phosphorylation of both ERKs and p38 MAPK, along with their downstream substrates Elk-1 and ATF-2, making it a valuable reagent for studies focused on cancer biology and cellular signaling mechanisms.
