Betavulgarin

Anticancer Agent

Betavulgarin is an anticancer agent derived from Sugar Beet (Beta vulgaris) that primarily targets breast cancer stem cells. It effectively suppresses proliferation, migration, colony formation, and mammosphere formation in breast cancer cells. Additionally, Betavulgarin reduces the size of the CD44+/CD24− subpopulation and downregulates the self-renewal-related genes C-Myc, Nanog, and Oct4. Its mechanism of action involves the regulation of Stat3/Sox2 signaling, ultimately promoting the death of cancer stem cells.
