Bilirubin diglucuronide

Bilirubin

Bilirubin diglucuronide is a conjugated form of bilirubin that primarily targets bilirubin metabolism. As the predominant bilirubin pigment excreted in bile across various species, including humans and certain mammals, it plays a vital role in the detoxification process. Its synthesis occurs mainly through the action of UDP-glucuronosyltransferases, which facilitate the transfer of glucuronic acid to bilirubin monoglucuronide. This compound is of particular interest in studies of hepatic function, cholestasis, and bilirubin metabolism disorders.
