Bilirubin ditaurine

Peroxide Radical Scavenger

Bilirubin ditaurine (BR-DT) serves as a peroxide radical scavenger, effectively mimicking the activities of conjugated bilirubin. This compound demonstrates potent protective effects against the oxidation of phosphatidylcholine, initiated by reactive oxygen species in multilayer liposomes or micelles. While BR-DT does not decompose 18:2-OOH independently, it significantly enhances the decomposition of this hydroperoxide when catalyzed by copper ions. BR-DT is valuable for research focusing on the detoxification mechanisms of conjugated bilirubin and oxidative stress responses.
