Bis-Q

ACh Agonist

Bis-Q is a selective acetylcholine (ACh) agonist, effective in voltage-clamped muscle fibers of the fish Xenomystus nigris. It exists in two isomeric forms: cis-Bis-Q, which is a non-agonist, and trans-Bis-Q, which acts as the active agonist. Photoisomerization from cis to trans form leads to the generation of agonist-induced currents, exhibiting conductance and open times similar to those of ACh. Trans-Bis-Q enhances the ratio of trans to cis forms under light, resulting in increased agonist-induced currents, particularly at elevated concentrations, making it a valuable tool for studies of muscle receptor dynamics and pharmacological responses.
