BMS-309403 sodium is a selective inhibitor of adipocyte fatty acid binding protein 4 (FABP4), with a potent binding affinity characterized by Kis of <2 nM for FABP4, and 250 nM and 350 nM for FABP3 and FABP5, respectively. It competitively binds to the fatty-acid-binding pocket of FABP4, effectively inhibiting the interaction with endogenous fatty acids. This compound has demonstrated beneficial effects on endothelial function in apolipoprotein E-deficient mice and in cultured human endothelial cells, making it valuable for research in metabolic disorders and vascular health.
