Bromodichloromethane

Trihalomethane

Bromodichloromethane is a trihalomethane compound primarily formed as a disinfection by-product in chlorinated drinking water. Its mechanism of action involves the formation of mutagenic intermediates through interactions mediated by glutathione S-transferase (GST). In biological assays, bromodichloromethane has been shown to inhibit the differentiation of human placental trophoblast cells while also reducing the secretion of chorionic gonadotropin (CG). This compound is of interest in toxicology and environmental research due to its potential reproductive toxicity and carcinogenic effects.
