Carbenoxolone

Gap Junction Blocker

Carbenoxolone is a selective inhibitor of Pannexin1 and a potent gap junction blocker. It modulates voltage-gated currents in both wild-type and mutant Panx1 channels, effectively inhibiting their activity in response to stimuli. Additionally, Carbenoxolone interacts with β-amyloid 42, preventing aggregation of peptides, fibrils, and oligomers, thereby offering potential neuroprotective and nootropic effects. This compound is utilized in research focused on Alzheimer's disease and the pathophysiology of liver fibrosis.
