Carboxyatractyloside dipotassium

ADP/ATP Carrier Inhibitor

Carboxyatractyloside dipotassium is a potent inhibitor of the ADP/ATP carrier located in the inner mitochondrial membrane. Its primary mechanism involves the inhibition of mitochondrial ADP/ATP transport, leading to increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and subsequent calcium release, resulting in mitochondrial dysfunction. This compound is valuable for research into mitochondrial bioenergetics, oxidative stress, and related pathophysiological conditions, including neurodegeneration, as evidenced by its ability to induce lethargy, weakness, and seizures in animal models.
