Ciguatoxin 1b

Voltage-sensitive Na+ Channel Activator

Ciguatoxin 1b is a potent activator of voltage-sensitive Na+ channels. It shifts channel activation to more negative membrane potentials, inhibits channel inactivation, and elevates Na+ permeability, thus enhancing cellular excitability. In bovine adrenal medullary chromaffin cells, Ciguatoxin 1b triggers tetrodotoxin-sensitive increases in intracellular Na+, which subsequently leads to cytoplasmic Ca2+ elevation and promotes SNARE-dependent catecholamine secretion. This reagent is relevant for research investigations into ciguatera poisoning and its underlying mechanisms.
