Convicine

Pyrimidine Glycoside

Convicine is a pyrimidine glycoside known for its role in the metabolic pathway leading to the aglycones Divicine and Isouramil. It is primarily associated with favism, a genetic disorder characterized by severe hemolytic anemia following the consumption of faba beans. Convicine can be obtained from faba beans and is instrumental for research into metabolic disorders, hemolytic conditions, and plant biochemistry. Its study can provide insights into enzyme activities and genetic susceptibilities related to fava bean consumption.
