Copper(II) pyrithione

New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase 1 Inhibitor

Copper(II) pyrithione acts as an inhibitor of New Delhi metallo-β-lactamase 1 through the transmetallation of its zinc(II) cofactor with copper(II). This compound exhibits cytotoxic effects against pancreatic cancer and osteosarcoma cells, alongside notable antibacterial properties against various Gram-positive and some Gram-negative bacteria. Additionally, Copper(II) pyrithione may enhance the efficacy of β-lactam antibiotics against β-lactam-resistant bacterial strains. It is suitable for research involving pancreatic cancer, osteosarcoma, and bacterial infections.
