(-)-Cryptopleurine

TMV

(-)-Cryptopleurine is an alkaloid that primarily targets the inhibition of tobacco mosaic virus (TMV), demonstrating significant antiviral properties. In addition to its antiviral activity, it exhibits potent cytotoxic effects against various cancer cell lines, including A375 melanoma and MCF-7 breast cancer, with an IC50 of 3 nM. Furthermore, (-)-Cryptopleurine effectively reduces hypoxia-induced gene expression in a hypoxia response element (HRE) reporter assay, displaying an IC50 of 8.7 nM. This compound also inhibits protein synthesis in both yeast and mammalian ribosomes, indicating its potential utility in molecular biology research.
