Cyclamic acid sodium

Artificial Sweetener

Cyclamic acid sodium, an artificial sweetener, primarily functions as a non-caloric sugar alternative. It exhibits cytotoxic effects on osteoblasts, leading to inhibited cell proliferation, induced apoptosis, and decreased mineralization in vitro. Additionally, cyclamic acid sodium has been associated with focal necrosis in rat bladder tissue, raising concerns about its potential role in promoting bladder cancer, although some studies indicate that low doses may not exhibit carcinogenic effects. Importantly, cyclamic acid sodium does not influence insulin and glucagon secretion triggered by arginine, making it a candidate for various biological and toxicological research applications.
